J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Store Hoggs and Reduction of in-lamb Gimmer Hoggs on behalf of EI,EA&TW Wilson, 27th January 2022

The sale commenced with the major flock reduction of Mule and Texel in-lamb hoggs from EI, EA&TW Wilson, Flookburgh the sale attracted much attention and interest from local and travelled customers. The hoggs were scanned in lamb and due in April to Beltex and Texel tups. Mule hoggs commenced the sale and sold to £155, £145, £142 twice, £140 and £138 five times. Texel cross hoggs were next peaking at £150 with others to £145 and £140. There was plenty of interest in all classes of in-lamb sheep, with upcoming sale of 1000 commercial in-lamb sheep at the Diamond Delights on Saturday the 29th January followed by the next sale of in-lamb sheep on Thursday 10th February with entries now being taken.
An entry of 1314 store hoggs were forward, saw a broad spectrum of quality and size on offer, with purchasers looking for all types. Once again best quality store hoggs sold in excess of the £100 mark, leading the way today the consignment from BJ Bowness, Kendal selling to £119. Nest call at £116 was Texel hoggs from PG Thornton, Scorton with Suffolks from the same home selling to £115.50. This was closely followed by other Suffolk lambs to £114.50 from J Dickinson, Milnthorpe. Texel lambs sold to £111 from T&M Halhead, Priest Hutton, £110 from LM&JH Bowes, Orton and £109 from WR Clarke & Partners, Yealand Redmayne. Charollais hoggs peaked at £108.50 from M Woodhouse, Millom. Upland hoggs saw Cheviots sell to £101.50 from M Allen, Carnforth with a pen of 55 Mules selling to £99 from AW&AM Clarke, Windermere. Followed by other Mules to £98 from M Allen and £97 from KD Harryman, Keswick. Horned hoggs saw Scottish Blackfaces sell to £85 and £82 from Coward Brother, Kirkby in Furness with Swaledales peaking at £70 and £69 from A Chard, Roeburndale. Rough Fells sold to £69.50 from RJ&OB Simpson, Longsleddale.
Plenty of demand still for store hoggs with the next sale on Thursday 10th February, entries are now being taken and requested so that buyers can be informed of number.
